Union Transparency
"I will conduct a full review of all NSU Democracy process including the Executive Officer Elections and Officer Scrutiny to better represent Newman students and to encourage more students to get involved with the Students’ Union." A major criticism of the Students' Union in it's current state is that students either don't understand how the structure of the union works, or that the current structure that is used does not properly represent the students who attend Newman University, so I am proposing a full review of how we elect our full-time and part-time Officers and what roles these officers take up. Another issue I have identified in my first year as Students' Union President is that the current vehicle that is used for students to express their voices, Student Forum, is no longer fit for purpose and needs a re-think. This is not something I can just do on my own, I need the input of all Newman Students to effectively make these changes. |

"To ensure the Students’ Union Office is considered a safe and accessible space for all students whenever they need it.I will supplement this by aiming for all Union staff to be Mental Health First Aid Trained and all Staff and Officers to undertake Equality and Diversity Training."
Being a university student in 2020 is not the same as it was 20, 15, 10 or even 5 years ago. The pressure that university students are under is greater than ever, and as a Students' Union we should respect that more than anyone and do everything we can to support students' at their highest highs and lowest lows. We as a society are in the height of a mental health crisis and everyone needs to play their part in supporting each other, which is why I am proposing subtle changes to SU Staff and Officer Development that will ensure all SU representatives are able to support students as best as we can. |

"President Blogs - I will aim to write and distribute a monthly update blog of what I and the Vice-President have been doing to always keep students in the loop!"
Another area that of transparency that we as a Students' Union can improve on is being clearer on what full-time officers are doing on a day to day basis, so following the start of SU Blogs on the website where staff write about various topics, I am proposing that the two full time officers collaborate on a monthly blog similar that updates students on all the work they have been doing! |
